Taking place since 2022, its goal is to strengthen the cooperation between staff and students through a recreational-competitive sports program. The regatta is a recreational event aiming to familiarize students with sailing, which is much more than a sport, and further motivate them to take it up. Therefore, the participants don’t need to have prior knowledge or experience in sailing. In 2023, 18 teams with over 300 participants joined the regatta!
Student Fiumanka 2024
Student Fiumanka, student and staff sailing competition of the University of Rijeka, is taking place for the third time. From Friday, June 7 until Sunday, June 9, it will be held as part of marking the 25 years of Fiumanka. Participation in regatta is open to all students and staff of the University of Rijeka. If the crew does not have an experienced helmsman among the students or staff, organizers will provide one. Therefore, participants do not need to have prior knowledge or experience in sailing. This kind of organization offers students the opportunity to experience sailing and acquire sailing skills through teamwork.
The three-day Regatta will be held as a cup competition where the winner will be announced in the final competition on the last day of sailing (after adding up all the scored points). Participants will sail on 6 monotype sailboats. The minimum number of crew members is 4 and the maximum is 8. The first three teams will receive awards, while the best one will be given the ‘Student Fiumanka’ transitional trophy.
Like the rest of the regattas within Fiumanka, this program is also free of charge which is especially important for students who otherwise would not be able to participate in such activities.
