In the 2025/2026 academic year, students at the University of Rijeka will have the opportunity to enroll in a new elective course titled Health-Oriented Physical Exercise, led by Dr. Sc. Sergio De Privitellio. The course is designed to promote healthy lifestyle habits through structured and diverse physical activity.

Over 30 teaching hours, 24 of which are dedicated to practical exercises, will enable students to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge in kinesiology that supports their physical and mental well-being. The program offers a diverse range of activities, including football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, group fitness classes, swimming, hiking, rowing, table tennis, martial arts, and badminton.

The course emphasizes the development of motor and functional abilities, proper execution of exercises and sports techniques, understanding the health benefits of regular physical activity, and cultivating personal physical culture and independent recreation.

Students will also participate in fieldwork activities, including hiking tours and educational workshops. Assessment will be based on continuous monitoring of activities, seminar papers, and practical knowledge checks.

The course carries 3 ECTS credits and attendance at practical sessions is mandatory.

This initiative by the University of Rijeka represents another step toward integrating a healthy lifestyle into the academic environment and fostering a more active student life.
